DEMAND JUSTICE FOR JACOB BLAKE
“I have been watching police murder people that look like me for years…
I’m not sad. I don’t want your pity. I want change.”
– Letetra Widman,
Sister of Jacob Blake
TODAY IS A GREAT DAY TO EMAIL TO DEMAND JUSTICE FOR JACOB BLAKE, HUMAN. READ THE FULL WORDS OF HIS SISTER, LETETRA, BELOW:
“I am my brother’s keeper. And when you say the name Jacob Blake, make sure you say father. Make sure you say cousin. Make sure you say son. Make sure you say uncle. But most importantly, make sure you say human. Human life. Let it marinate in your mouth, in your mind. And human life, just like every single one of y’all…we’re human. And his life matters. So many people have reached out to me telling me they’re sorry this happened to my family. Well, don’t be sorry, ‘cause this has been happening to my family for a long time. Longer than I can account for. It happened to Emmett Till. Emmett Till is my family. Philando [Castile]. Mike Brown. Sandra [Bland]. This has been happening to my family, and I’ve shed tears for every single one of these people that it’s happened to. This is nothing new. I’m not sad. I’m not sorry. I’m angry, and I’m tired. I haven’t cried one time. I stopped crying years ago. I am numb. I have been watching police murder people that look like me for years. I’m also a Black history minor. So not only have I been watching it in the 30 years that I’ve been on this planet, but I’ve been watching it for years before we were even alive. I’m not sad. I don’t want your pity. I want change.”

Hi ______,
My name is ______ and I am writing to demand justice for Jacob Blake. Jacob Blake is currently in critical condition and fighting for his life after Kenosha police shot him 7 times in front of his three young children. This is inhumane, unacceptable, and representative of the deep-rooted racism and police brutality within our community.
As a resident of (city, state) , I am demanding that all police officers involved in the shooting be fired immediately and that the Kenosha District Attorney file appropriate charges and prosecute those involved to the fullest extent of the law. I am asking you to use your position of power to do what is best for the community and to do what is best for the Blake family. I am counting on you to act now.
In Solidarity,

AS A REMINDER, HERE ARE THE DETAILS OF THE SHOOTING OF JACOB BLAKE
On Sunday, August 23, Jacob, a Black man, was shot in the back seven times by police officers in Kenosha, WI. Reports indicate that the police were on the scene to respond to a domestic dispute, and the victim was attempting to help settle it.
A large group of people was present to witness the shooting, in addition to his fiancée and children, who were reportedly IN THE BACKSEAT OF THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE SHOOTING.
‘Though police did not provide details on the witnesses, [Atty Ben] Crump told CNN that Blake’s three young sons were inside the vehicle when their dad was shot.“They saw a cop shoot their father. They will be traumatized forever. We cannot let officers violate their duty to PROTECT us. Our kids deserve better!!” the attorney tweeted. – CNN
In a video, the victim can be seen walking to his car and opening the door before being restrained by a police officer and shot point-blank in the back.
As of the time of writing this, Blake is in serious condition.

The words of Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers sum up the need for sweeping changes in government and police force policies:
“We stand with all those who have and continue to demand justice, equity, and accountability for Black lives in our country—lives like those of George Floyd, of Breonna Taylor, Tony Robinson, Dontre Hamilton, Ernest Lacy, and Sylville Smith. And we stand against excessive use of force and immediate escalation when engaging with Black Wisconsinites,”
“I have said all along that although we must offer our empathy, equally important is our action. In the coming days, we will demand just that of elected officials in our state who have failed to recognize the racism in our state and our country for far too long.” – WI GOV TONY EVERS
